Joe's Story

Life Moved to Puerto Rico in 63 and attended 8th, 9th and tenth grade at AHS. Then moved to Oakland (CA) in 1966..talk about culture shock! Graduated from Oakland Tech in 68, goofed around in junior college for awhile and enlisted in US Army in 69 (Ft. Monmouth NJ), out in 72. Married in 70, divorced in 76. Re-married in 87. I had a couple of false career starts. I thought I would be a professional motorcycle racer! ha ha, the joke was on me! Currently (and for past 24 years) work for the Stanislaus County (California) Sheriff's Office as a patrol sergeant assigned to Patterson Office just off Interstate 5, in the Modesto area. Prior to Ft. Buchanan I lived (in reverse order) in Ft. Hamilton (NY), Okinawa, Des Moines (IA), and Clark AFB (P.I.). In Ft. Buchanan I lived at 1009-B Capehart Housing. My parents were (are) Catherine and (S/MAJ) Nunzio Camarda. My sister was/is Kathy (class of 69) and I also had a younger sister, Teresa and a younger brother, Michael. I swam on the Ft. an swim team for awhile (hi Jane Mellor) and played some baseball. Currently enjoy my family and Italian motorcycles. Richard Carney, Dennis Johnson, Tony Rodriguez, Ronnie and Jim Rogers, Tony Pusateri, Jacque Smith, Sherri Wooten, Ronnie York, Ruben and Manny Lujan, Uli ?, Wesley White, Bob Nystrom, Mike Hammlet, Cisco Carrasquillo (#10) and others I'm sure I'm forgetting....what memories. Update, March 2012. I've since retired after 30 years of pushing a patrol car around.... Update, October 2014: After retiring in 2011 (Sept. 14, 30 years to the date of employment) I've continued to work for the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Office in a part-time capacity. In August of 2013 we (my wife Shelley and I) moved from Modesto to Pacific Palisades in SoCal. I've continued to work for the Sheriffs Office and commute 300 miles to Modesto to work occasionally when I can be scheduled for several consecutive days. My children are grown and doing well which is a source of happiness! Joe Camarda
