Joe's Story

Hello, I have three high schools here that I have attended. Austin High in El Paso from Fall '88 to Jan '90; Buena Vista High in Sierra Vista from Jan "90 to Spring "91 and Perris Union High in Fall '91 to Nov '91. I dropped out and received my GED in June '92 out of Hemet, CA. My Pop was in the Army, hence the various schools. Because of my brief appearance in these schools, I do not expect many of you to remember me but I did have some good friends and you know who are. I do hope we can reconnect. However, I invite anyone to reach out to me and whether I remember you or not, maybe we can establish something new. Regarding my story, I realized working a minimum wage job in southern California was not going to get me anywhere. Since there were not many prospects for high school dropouts (even those with GEDs), I decided to join the service. Being a dropout (that's the third time I've mentioned that) cost me a shot with the Marines and Air Force. But the Army didn't give a damn and I was in from Oct '93 to July '98. While in the service, I got married. After my discharge, I went to college full time while working hourly jobs. I received my associate's degree in criminal justice from Cameron University in Lawton, OK. I think it was 2002 (hell, I don't remember). I was hired as a federal officer in Ft. Sill, OK and pushed on for my bachelor's in criminal justice (if I was to do it all over again, I would have pursued something more challenging, sorry CJ majors). Along the way, I had three ki...Expand for more
ds. I graduated in 2005 and divorced shortly thereafter. After having enough of being told what to do, I resigned as a police officer and was accepted to law school at several places. I chose Arkansas. I received my law degree in 2009 and moved to Dallas. After I passed the bar, my first job was with a solo for a few months then I was hired by the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in spring of 2010. I worked in the Misdemeanor, Felony, Organized Crime and Child Abuse Divisions. I gained much experience and tried cases from DWI to murder to Sexual Assault of a Child. In January 2016, it was time to move on and I opened my own shop. I now have my own practice in Dallas with an emphasis in criminal defense and probate, wills, and trusts. On a personal note, my greatest accomplishment was potty training my son before his 3rd birthday. I've had custody of my children since my second year of law school and still have them to this day (hats off to all you single parents out there!). A recent update, my daughter finished her first year of college at Loyola University New Orleans and is home for the summer. But don't ask me to post pictures of my kids, won't happen. UPDATE: I'm in the '90 Austin yearbook. I don't think I made it to any other of the schools I attended. UPDATE: Just posted my "THEN" picture. A photo of me goofing off in the JROTC room; likely Fall '89. Much thanks to Veronica Sandoval for finding it! If you are still reading this and interested in more, hit me with a DM.
