Joe's Story

After graduating from St. Ignatius in 1978, I headed to Purdue to study biology with the intent of becoming a veterinarian. Four years later, I ended up with a B.A. in philosophy and creative writing. (I also did a lot of hitchhiking during those four years.) I stayed another two years to get my M.A. in English literature. Shortly after graduation (1984), I moved to Indianapolis and married Cecie Howard, a native of Crawfordsville, Indiana, whom I met at Purdue. ever since about 1985, spending most of my time writing and editing computer books for various publishers. I've written several Complete Idiot's Guides, including the very first one - The Complete Idiot's Guide to PCs. I eventually became a little tired of writing computer books, so I started connecting with experts in different fields to co-author books, including Bipolar Disorder For Dummies, Flipping Houses For Dummies, and Food Allergies For Dummies. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, running, reading, and (a little) fishing.
