Joe's Story
After spending most of my Sr. year homeless (I got tired of being beat up at home), I decided to "take my chances" on the streets. I spent many a night sleeping by the fence at the Old San Jose Speedway....burr it was cold and then to still try to make it to school each morning without leading on, that was a challenge!!! I sometimes stayed with my brother who lived out by Hwy 17 & the Alemeda, and walked to school, or if I found a dime, I'd take the bus. Sometimes I'd stay with friends, but not always!!! When I ran away for the last time, I swore that however my life would turn out, it would be of my own making, that I would not be a "Victim" and carry around all of that pain and trauma, that I would put down "that bag of bricks" and be responsible for my future self. After graduation, I joined the ARMY, I had lots of opportunities, but partied instead. 2 years later, I got out and "bummed around" Silicon Valley for a couple of years before getting a job at "The Rocket Ranch" (United Technologies) back behind Evergreen. I spent 27 years there working my way up from the bottom to working as a Sr. Test Engineer in the Test Group testing Solid Rocket motors until they closed the site in 2004. I completed my BS in Business Management while there. Aerojet in Sacr...Expand for more
amento heard I was available and moved my wife Karen and I up to the Placerville area to work at their Rancho Cordova Plant. After 8 more years of working in the Aerospace/Defense Industry (35 total) I continued to reflect on my questions about life. After my little Brother Jeff (Jethro) was shot and killed in Nevada Casino by a rival gang, I realized it was time to get serious about seeking my answers. I "Threw in the towel" and retired in 2013. I work with 3 different charity services as well as having my own now for 25 years!! I really love helping the Homeless, and having experienced that path during HS, I have a deeper appreciation for their situations. I've spent the last 15 years on my Spiritual awaking journey, and spent a month in Egypt, and another month in Spain/Portugal to better understand and seek answers that I've been searching for. I now have a 3 year old and a new addition (born 5/18) grandsons from my Daughter that I visit almost every day. My son and his wife are also thinking about a family now, so maybe more? LOL I spend some of my spare time either in my wood shop, or lounging in the pool during these hot summer afternoons.. Life is great and I hope everyone of you from the Class of 74 is living your dreams!! Namaste my friends!!
