Joe's Story
Life
After graduating from Thomas Starr King I went first to Belmont High for a year, because I thought I needed a change. I was wrong (I liked the school but I kinda felt out of place, not knowing alot of people.) then transfered to John Marshal HS where I knew almost everyone and that is where I got into trouble more; it was a good life learning experience. After leaving Marshal I joined the US Navy,and after bootcamp i was assigned to the good ship "USS Mattaponi (AO-41)". I went to many foreign ports and prior to Vetiam, the ship was called back one night when I was on the Helm during Mid-Watch, I heard the message for Adrm. Juliet to proceed to Sigon to evacuate American Dependents, that was when it started, the next trip over to WesPac was a real life learning experience that I'll never forget, 9 days of liberty in 9 months. k to school on the GI Bill, to get the HS diploma then on to colleges, USF for my BS in Information Systems Management (ISM), then now I have an MBS in ISM and to old to apply it as the corporate world says. I was with Pacific Bell and retired with over 31.5 years of service. Mairred a good woman on the third go around have 4 children ranging from 40 years to 17 yrs of age. Went back in the Naval Reserve in 1978, still serving until next December 2005 I will retire with a full 33 yrs of total affilation of Navy Life as a Senior Chief Boat'sn Mate. I do volunteer work aboard the S.S. Jerimah O'brien as a Deck Hand from time to time, she still does sail the SF Bay Area and travels to Stockton and Sacramento once a year.
