Joe's Story
Joe Boyd has been involved with photography from the early years of his life. His father was a Kodak sales rep, and Joe spent as much time in and around the on site lab as possible. He learned B&W from the ground up using whatever camera was in the lab. From the very beginning he had what others would later call a unique perspective on common everyday things.
He was captivated by the story telling power of the camera, and used his ability to stack images in his head, to create one of a kind multiple exposures that were deemed far superior to his years.
Family disruption caused a long halt to his creative thoughts. He attended college to become a Pre School teacher. For his final he composed a film that rekindled his love of imagery.
He moved to Oakhurst California, and spent many months in the mountains in and around Yosemite. Studying other photographic masters of the region he gained a superior knowledge of the working of film, aperture, and shutter ...Expand for more
speed. He became a fan of long exposure, natural light, candle light, and flashlight. Through moving most all of this early work has been given away or lost. The candle lit âJacqui on the Stairsâ was an early success that is haunting in the detail and emotion it portrays. Mono tone oranges add to the glow of the sitting.
Soon after leaving California for Maryland, he found himself in grossed in Washington DC. This is what he refers to as current work. It has been recognized by the Smithsonian, and THE ART BATIK GROUP in Barcelona. Print sales of âGhost of the Night Watchmanâ, "Tommy Can You Hear Me?" and âUnpaid National Debtâ continue to increase. In addition his work hangs in the office of prominent government officials.
His work has been featured or used by, CNN sites, NCIS on CBS, Move On, Democratic National Party, and is hanging in several museums around the country including the Veterans Museums in Chehalis WA, and San Diego CA.
