Joel's Story

Here’s what happened after high school the short version...First job was in San Carlos building speed boats, that job became working as a lumber clerk at O’Neil Lumber also in San Carlos. One night while pin striping cars at Sugar-N-Spice I ran into Jim Rode (Sequoia ‘58) he was working as a technical illustrator and said he could get me an art job. Worked as a Job Shopper all over the country for a while with Jim, got a fulltime job at Sylvania in Mt. View, which lead to a job at AreoJet in Sacramento. I met my first wife, moved back to Bay Area and went to work at Associated Techdata in Palo Alto had two kids boy and a girl. Did freelancing at night and met Marty Gallott, we started an Ad Agency together called Gallott & Assoc. in Palo Alto.The agency was a big success and made lots of money. Built a custom house in Cupertino...marriage lasted 7 years. I ran into Dana Morgan (Sequoia ‘59) who was also getting divorced, we rented a big house up by the Cross in Redwood City we bought Harley’s and became Easy Riders! joined an agency called Studio Graphics. I merged the agency with Hubbert & Assoc. in Tustin. Met my second wife while at a party in San Jose and moved back to Santa Clara and worked for Coakley Hagerty Adv. as Art Director in San Jose with Gary Dahl of Pet Rock fame. Started my own agency Joel Anderson & Assoc. in Los Gatos. Closed the agency in a few year and became Art Director for Atari in Sunnyvale. During that time I started road racing sports cars with Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), after a few years I move up to pro racing with International Motor Sports Assoc. (IMSA). Quit Atari after 3 years and started up my agency Joel Anderson Adv. again. I’ve been self employed as a Art Director/Graphic Designer for must of my career. My second marriage lasted 25 years, during that time I lived on Bethel Island in the Sacramento delta. Coach boy’s varsity basketball at Liberty High school in Brentwood for 8 years. In 1998 I married my third wife I started Yardscape Pools & Landscaping, designing yards and building swimming pools. I’m now retired and live in Georgetown, TX, bass fishing and racing vintage sports cars are my hobbies.
