Joel's Story
After graduating from High School, I went to Sierra College and CSUS and gradualed with a Bachelor's in Russian. During my studies at Sac State, I enrolled in a Foreign Exchange program and went to Russia for two years. During that time, I met my current wife of 14+ years. After finishing my studies abroad, I got a job as a translator in a Joint Russian/ American Venture and spent another year living in Russia. It was in my third year there that my wife and I were married. We came back to the USA where I finished school and soon after got a job at Social Security. My wife, after learning English, got a job as an Actuary in a large insurance company. We lived in Rocklin for a time and then moved to Roseville. That is when Nina's company was bought out by Nationwide Insurance...Expand for more
. It was then that we had to move to Des Moines, Iowa for Nina's work. Being a federal employee, I had no problem getting a transfer out here. It is a pretty quiet place but the schools are really good and the people are nice. Unfortunately the weather really sucks here. We have tornados and floods but no earthquakes. Woo hoo, I guess. Not that we had them to often in Auburn or anything. Anyway, I have two beautiful daughters, one of which is 12 and the other is 9. Life is going well. It is unfortunate but I guess I missed our twenty year reunion. Maybe I can make it to the next one. Life is good. My family and I are happy so I have no regrets. I just wish the damn gas prices were better. I shouldn't complain since they are lower here than in California. That's all for now.
