Joel B.'s Story
MY LIFE (The Chronological Thumbnail Version)
After graduating from Cal Lutheran in 1979, I moved to Sacramento to attend Law School. Hated it! (Law School, that is, not Sacramento.) So I went on to Cal State Sacramento for my MBA.
In the fall of 1980, I started a band, Spring Water Express, to perform at private parties. We played hundreds of gigs from wedding receptions and corporate dinner-dances to special events like the California State Fair.
In 1997, I married Lynn, the love of my life.
Major health problems forced me to dissolve Spring Water Express in March of 1999. We had a very tough time for a couple of years, but Lynn and I managed to live through it!
Due to my health, I thought I'd never be involved in music again. Then, through a series of very strange circumstances, I ended up back in music in the fall of 2005.
2006 saw me arranging vocals, playing bass and singing in a cowboy-history group, The Bea...Expand for more
r Back Riders of America, fronted by Randy Sparks. I also ended up playing bass and percussion, and singing in Randy's "big group," The New Christy Minstrels, in 2006. Randy wrote one of my all-time favorite songs, "Today." ("Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine.....") So, after having been away from music for years, I found myself on stage performing with original NCM members from the group's "glory days" of 1962-1964: Randy Sparks, Barry McGuire, Clarence Treat, Art Podell, Jackie Miller Davidson, Dolan Ellis and Gayle Caldwell (RIP Gayle 2009). What a thrill!
Since then, I've produced (and performed on) several CD projects for friends. My health issues still prevent me from spending much time performing, but I've thoroughly enjoyed working in the recording studio and producing. Who knows what the future will bring?
(Since, I'm rarely here on Classmates, check in with me on Facebook... as "Joel B. Gibson")
