Joelle's Story

Attended Worthington in Junior High (Perry Middle and an exciting science fair) and '73-'76 in HS (Volleyball Team and lunch bunch, Softball Teams, Art, disco skating with friends after school, painting the station wagon, swimming, or walking around the neighborhood as late as we could get away with are favorite memories). Then, moved to Anderson HS ('77) (memories of painting a ship on a guy's belly for South Pacific, Volleyball Team successes, babysitting for Mr. Knight, and trying to get work into Spectrum to impress Mrs. Harris AND a boy on the staff). Next, I attended Miami University (BS '81) with a switch from Art to Interior Design after one year. Married Jeff Dulaney (met on blind date at Miami) in 1980 and lived in a duplex off campus for our senior year. We enjoyed some travel and backpacking during our young couple years. Worked as a Commercial Interior Designer in Pittsburgh while Jeff earned his PhD in Physics at U of Pitt. Only child, Bobbi, born 1987 (Hilliard, OH) and worked on a major fixer-upper while Jeff was at Battelle. Worked from home various positions while daughter was young, Designed and built dream home in Dublin, OH, and helped husband start his own laser business, attended Ashland to become an art teacher, and worked at Tharp Middle School. Divorced 2000. Completed Teacher Certification after a move to Texas (where several family members had moved) in Highland Park, TX while daughter completed HS (taught in Dallas Schools and Highland Park during that period). Took up single RV life (which was SO fun) and a job at a charter school (not so fun), then switched back to a ...Expand for more
small rural public school in 2005 (Richards, TX) which was closer to my aging parents in Montgomery, TX. Have been teaching Art, Science, Journalism, Social Studies, Theater, and CTE courses (whatever they need me to be certified in for the next year) ever since to small classes. It has been a dream job, because I am constantly learning and challenged, but have great relationships with staff and students. My youngest brother, Randy (a biomedical engineer) and his extended family, are about an hour away and his wife, Cindy, shares a love of art and crafts with me. My brother Jeff (middle child and school psychologist) is in Cincinnati with wife Carol and some of his extended family (one is married and in Canada). My daughter is married and lives in Oakland, CA. She graduated from California College of the Arts in film, works as a performer and teacher of circus arts (aerial tissue and hoops) and sells awesome Savvy Rest mattresses on the weekend: but, her main job is Executive Director of a nonprofit arts group. My son-in-law, Jeremy, has just earned his degree from UC Berkely in Food Politics, grows an urban garden, makes craft beer, and is incredibly sweet, caring, and passionate. No grandkids, but there is a "granddog". I have recently begun to help my parents to sort through their belongings and purge excess papers, which uncovered some of my old souvenirs. This prompted an interest in what happened to some of my friends and acquaintences over the years. I have never attended a reunion due to timing, but see the internet option as viable to share and revive old connections and share remembrances.
