John's Story
I wanted to be a great distance runner. I spent a lot of years working towards that goal, but never got there.
After HS, I spent the next 1 1/2 years in Arlington. Ran 4:33 mile and 9:18 2 mile. Nat'l Jr. records for 30km and 20 miles (unofficial, at that time, as US Jr records were not recorded).
Went to LA in Jan, 1963, to run w/ the LA Track Club. Stayed there 3 years. Got married. No kids.
2 years at Univ of Utah. Mostly injured.
Moved to Md, end of 1967. Been here ever since.
Managed to accumulate over 180 hours, over the years, but no degree.
Kidney operation in 1970. End of running...Expand for more
.
Spent 18 years in the Art and Crafts/ School supply business. Became Data Processing Manager. Left in 1986 to work for a consulting company. Stayed there 2 years, then left to go on my own. Ran my own small consulting company till health forced me to stop in 2003. Spent the last 6 years driving a truck for NAPA, delivering auto parts on a part-time basis. Great job. I also build and repair PCs and do a little consulting work.
Currently living about 15 miles northwest of Baltimore, in Reisterstown. Near the end of I-795.
That about sums it up.
