John's Story
After High School put in some time at UofM-Dearborn. While at school I worked a low level marketing job at Ford Motor Company. Impressed the right people from that job and went to the Fleet Division and eventually ended up in Brand Protection as an investigator looking into fraud, counterfeiting and part theft/diversion. It was one of the coolest jobs you can ask for. Tons of crazy stories of people and companies I busted. One thing I do not miss is the blisters from walking hours and hours undercover at the SEMA/APEX show trying to find scammers.
While working at Ford I started some small sports gambling portal sites for fun. The ad money and pick sales was nice spending money, but nothing life changing. As the sites grew in popularity and started to bring in real money I left Ford and never had to work a 9-5 again. Dream come true honestly. I make a living to talk about sports and gambling. on tickets for all the major sports teams and can legally write it off on my taxes! I have been to everything from the Super Bowl, to fights in Vegas and the Ryder Cup.
Over the years I have been on the radio and have had guest columns in tons of gaming publications. The one major highlight was three years ago a group of us won $125,000 in a NFL Handicapping Contest at the Las Vegas Hilton.
On a personal level, I met a wonderful woman and have two great kids. My little boy is 2 (Tyler) and my daughter is 5 (Mackenzie). Because of the business I am, I go to Vegas every two months and in spent two weeks in Rome last summer with the wife. The ability to work from home and spend time with my family is the biggest perk of all.
Even though I put in 10+ hours per day running everything from updates to answering 100 or more emails per day, I love every minute of it. Bottom line, I am living the American Dream.
