John's Story
Life
Life has been great since I moved up to Alaska. I have since remarried in 2005 and have two step children ages 16 and 32. I also have two step grand-children ages 6 and 10. I am a grandpa at 42! Other hobbies include Irish and Scottish music with a little Klezmer thrown in. I have been more active with the Fiddle and Mandolin lately. I have pretty much traded my former electronics and computer hobby for music. Did I mention I fly Ultralights too? If you see N50966 flying overhead, it's me. :-)
Workplace
I am a network guru responsible for our enterprise consisting of several thousand hosts. I take care of the infrastructure side of things involving the routers, firewalls, packet shapers, web cache, Cisco Call-Manager(voip), video gatekeeper for our video conference, wireless lan system server and controllers, single and multimode fiber termination equipment, and a host of other eq...Expand for more
uipment. I enjoy the work that I do and get the satisfaction that the network does not go down on several thousand people when I click "Apply changes".
Military
My Air Force career begain at Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX in 1983. This was a mere two weeks after I graduated at Phoenix High School. My first assignment was located at Sunnyvale Air Force Station(now know as Onizuka Air Force Station, memorialized in the name of the Japanese pilot who died during the 1986 shuttle Challenger explosion). I spent most of my career as an Accounting and Finance specialist with duties ranging from Pay and and entitlement changes to budgets. I separated from the Air Force in 1988 returning to civilian life in Oregon. I later returned to an Air National Guard position for six years in the Information Technology field. I am now once again, out as a civilian in pursuit of my civilian aspirations.
