John's Story
Life
Married Claudia Rinker (of Allentown and Emmaus, PA) in 1975 best thing I ever did !!
We met at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. We got married after she graduated (between my Sophomore and Junior year of dental school)
We've traveled the world and had a blast. She even packed up all our stuff into storage and followed the USS Saratoga as I made 2 cruises to the Mediterranean. She traveled with a few other wives and the USO and met us in nearly every port we visited, including Greece and Egypt. Between port visits she traveled around Europe on a Eurrail pass!
Truly, she has been the driving force of my (our) life experiences. An incredibly dynamic individual. I am lucky to have found her as a soul mate!
School
Truthfully, High School was not my favorite time of my life!
However, several things were memorable and helped shape my future:
Had a terrific girlfriend, Joan Steffner. Although we drifted apart after I graduated, I treasure the memories. I wonder where she is now???
Played drums and a bit of guitar in a number of bands. Larry Carlin and Dave McCullough and I had a blast as The Destinations!
Worked part time as a janitor for Simmons Elementary School to make money for band gear and gas for my VW beetle. I will always remember Mr. Benjamin Neff, the head janitor of Simmons. A truly wonderful grass-roots kind of guy who instilled in me the integrity and moral value of putting in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.
