John's Story
Life
hmm, what has happened to me in the years since graduation. two or three years after we graduated i lived on a 50 ft. boat. met my wife on that boat, we've been married for 14 years. we have 6 children, jacob 17 (will be 18 in jan.), bekah 16, anna lee 10, noah 6 rachel 3, and douglas 2 (the last three are my adopted sons and daughter). have had various jobs and 4 back surgeries. i'm currently working at big bend community college in moses lake, washington. i work in the library, taking care of the circulation desk and the librarys computer network.
we attend a mennonite church (we don't drive horse and buggy, though i wish we did, that would be fun).
we currently live on a small farm between odessa and ritzville. we have a small horses, two pygmy goats, a burro, 5 dogs, 3 cats, a few chickens and some gold fish.
i've been writing short stories and some poetry with a few short stories published in a college magazine.
between writing, the farm and work, i should be pretty busy, but the farm is a pretty relaxing place. ou...Expand for more
r closest neighbor is over a mile away. on a clear night the sky is just filled with stars and it's so quiet, you just can't imagine.
well, that's enough for now. take care of yourselves. drop me a line.
Update: adopted 2 more kids since last post. Now I have 8 kids and 9 grandchildren.
I had taken up watch and clock repair as a hobby/part time job and was doing pretty good until this happened.
A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy which is an eye condition. It progressed pretty quickly and I’m now declared legally blind, can’t drive anymore and had to leave my job at the library where I had been for about 27 years. I’m on disability now and collecting my retirement. . I can see to get around but I do take my white cane with me when I go to places I’m not familiar with.
Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m enjoying my early “retirement”. My wife and our youngest (12) have been doing some traveling/camping. I’m also trying to stretch my limited vision as much as I can.
Life is great and I’m having fun.
