John's Story
Life
So, what has happened to me since leaving Taft High in 1973? Well, I went on to Taft College for two years, getting an A.A. degree, then moved up the valley to Fresno State, where I majored in Mathematics and also qualified to be a teacher in California. Prop. 13 passed in 1978 however, so I had to move out-of-state for my first teaching assignment, ending up in Las Vegas, Nevada. I taught at Orr Junior High until 1991, then transferred to a new junior high called Greenspun in the Green Valley area of Henderson, just outside of Las Vegas. But by 1999, I felt I needed to get out of Vegas, so I moved back to California. I'm currently a teacher at Highland High School in Bakersfield, teaching ninth grade algebra and pre-algebra. The change has been good for me, and I don't regret doing it.
Personally, I got married in January of 1988, but the marriage didn't take, and we divorced in 1992. We had no children.
I'm planning on eventually moving to the coast somewhere, but for now Bakersfield is o.k. for me. It would be great for any former classmates, or former students for that matter, to get in touch with me. I hope to hear from you soon.

ompany, we moved around a lot when I was a kid. I was born in Ventura CA, but when I was a few months old, we moved to Santa Maria CA and lived there through kindergarten and the beginning of first grade. Then we moved to Oildale, just north of Bakersfield, where I attended Wingland Elementary, finishing 1st grade and staying there until the beginning of 4th grade. Then we moved to Garden Grove, CA (we lived three blocks from Disneyland) where I finished fourth grade at Parkview Elemetary. In the summer of 1965, we moved to Kenai, Alaska, where I attended Kenai Elementary for 5th and 6th grades and Kenai Junior High for 7th and 8th grades. I started 9th grade at Kenai High School, but after just a few weeks, we moved back to California to the city of Taft, where I finished high school at Taft Union High School, graduating in 1973. I then attended Taft College for two years, graduating with an AA degree in June, 1975. I then transferred to Fresno State,graduating with a B.A. degree in mathematics in December, 1977 and also got my first teaching license at the same time. In 1978, I got a teaching job in Las Vegas, NV, and finished my Masters at UNLV in 1982 majoring in Educational Administration.
