John's Story
Life
From '74 - '76 I worked as forest fire fighter with the U.S. Forest Service in the San Bernardino National Forest.
In '79 I married a girl from Philadelphia, but we lived in Fontana. Though I had a chance to move to Philly, I swore I would never live on the east coast.
In '92 I moved to Philadelphia! I went to paralegal school and work in Center City Philadelphia as a paralegal for 3 yrs. I currently work for the paralegal school I previously attended as a financial aid administrator. I've been there for 9 yrs. now.
I've two great boys (now 24 and 21 yrs. of age). I've traveled extensively through out the Caribbean. I have backpacked in Yosemite, flown gliders here in PA, and have been scuba diving with sharks in the Bahamas.
I was back to visit Fontana 3 yrs. ago - it has changed dramatically. Very little looks the same. I miss the great fast food places that we do not have here (Weinerschnitzel, In & Out Burger, Carl's Jr., and Mexican food in general). They do have good food here. It is just different and mostly not available in CA.
I read the message board about the Streets of Fontana. It brought back a lot of good memories. In message #4, the officer that shot the bear was my uncle Art Lindner. It was strange to read all those me...Expand for more
ssages from 3,000 miles (and another world) away.
Update 3/20/15 - I'm now retired and have a beautiful 3 yr. old granddaughter. She is major part of my wife's and my lives. We love and enjoy (almost) every moment with her.
Retirement has given me the time to pursue my photography and videography interests. I enjoy the creativity. You can see some of my work on Youtube.com and Flickr.com.
I also still enjoy seeking out adventure. In '09, I had the chance to snorkel for a week with humpback whales in the Caribbean. I've experienced skydiving and hang gliding. Currently, I've become part of the volunteer crew of a 100+ yr. old sailing ship based at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, PA. I'm part of the engineering crew responsible for keeping all the ship's systems working. It's a great experience.
My youngest son (now age 30) also has the adventure bug. In addition to joining me on a lot of the things I done, he's also done winter mountaineering trips up frozen mountains in below freezing weather and recently completed and ice climb up some frozen waterfalls here on the east coast.
Even my granddaughter is getting the adventure spirit. She's already experienced wall climbing at the climbing gym and trampolining. She loves it and can't wait to go again.
