John's Story

Joined USAF in October of '67 and spent three years in Germany. Discharged in August '71 and went to MCCC, then WSU. Eventually got a B.S. in Unified Science from WSU with a chemistry specialty. Joined the active USAF Reserve in November '76 and went to work for GM (Cadillac) in December '77 as a chemist/metallurgist. Retired from GM in April '02 (EARLY !!) and then the USAF in December '03. Attained the rank of E-8, Senior Master Sergeant and was the Deputy Fire Chief for the 927th ARW at Selfridge. Training Officer. Active member/instructor for the county USAR (technical rescue) team and HazMat team. Met my wife, Darlene (Mott HS, 1970), after getting off active duty and we married in July '73. Still going strong. No kids, just cats. Retired from the Grand Blanc FD May 0f 2018 and now fully retired, living the dream! Came out of "retirement" in June of 2019 and joined the Grand Blanc City Fire Department, which formed after a political "disagreement" between the city and township. Currently a Captain, in charge of vehicle maintenance and on-scene operations. Just living the dream!

Lying here with the plague I thought I dodged. Nurse Ally making sure I’m still above the lawn.
Merlin on the bedroom window platform. Had to build it a few years ago to hang the vertical blinds. Ally and the late Max used to enjoy sitting up there. It’s a little too difficult for Ally to get up there anymore.
