John's Story
Life
Personal: I am married and have been for 23 years to Carol. I have three children. The first two are off to college. The other is a junior in high school.
I am now retire due to disabilities but prior to that I was teaching at a couple of different colleges. When I am not in a classroom or studying myself, I spend time with my local church and with the Boy Scouts where I have served on their summer camp staff for the last four years and as a Chaplain for the last 8 years. I have even got my two daughters involved.
Educational: Currently, I am working on my PhD through Walden University in the area of decision sciences and in particular the Biblical Decision making process. I also hold a Master of Divinity from the Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, a Master of Science in Business Administration from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Michigan Technological University.
Professionally: I was teaching now for about 12 years and am on the faculties of Regent University (VA), Taylor University (IN), Cornerstone University (MI...Expand for more
), Art Institute Online (PA) and Aquinas College (MI). I teach courses in both business and religious studies and both in the classroom and online. The fun thing to do is to take my theological side and bring it into the business classroom for the best business handbook I know of is the Bible.
By the way it is the world of the online education that allows me to teach at so many fine universities and interact with such a large number of students.
Before teaching I worked in the Engineering Division of the US Fish and Wildlife Service for 5 years handling construction and maintenance budgeting and policy. I also worked for the US Department of State's Foreign Building Operations as a management analysis for a year. My first "real" job, after college was serving in the US Army as an officer in the Corps of Engineers doing primarily Construction Management, and Emergency Operations. Additionally, I have worked in the retail industry, as a consultant to a marketing firm and currently own a consulting firm, Carpenter Educational Service, with just 1 employee, me.
