John's Story

Life Well, I graduated from Texas A&M University in December of 1994 with an aerospace engineering degree. That's when I started dating my first true love. Then I worked out at NASA for about three and a half years or so in various disciplines of the space shuttle and space station programs. During this period, however, I developed schizophrenia, paranoid type, and really flipped out for a while. I lost her in the process, as well as pretty much everything in my life. Now I'm at home with my parents, recuperating from the aftermath of my condition. So far, I'm doing pretty well. I own my own business (for about two and a half years now). Also, I am learning a lot about web design, algorithm analysis and design, and the creative process. I write articles on metaphysics as a hobby. It's mind expanding stuff. I returned to university this fall semester, with the goal of obtaining a Ph.D. in physics and mathematics, which will, hopefully, eventually lead to a career as a professor in my hometown, Good Old Houston, perhaps at my first alma mater, at the University of Houston. I took a course in Introduction To Quantum Mechanics, a junior/senior level physics course. It blew my mind, and I loved it! As of this time, the final exam is the following Friday, and I'm not exactly clueless, but the concepts I learned were fascinating! Well, that's about it. Oh, and I'm a proud uncle to a young boy of about three or so years old and a very beautiful little girl of about one years old. School Well, in elementary my biggest school crush was Danielle. I forgot her last name, but I remember playing in the playground with her after school. I think she liked me as well. In junior high (or middle school) my biggest crush was a girl named Jennifer Miller. She was the bom! I took an etiquette dancing class once, and not only was she in it, but I got to dance with her. That really made my life! Another middle school crush of mine was Stacy Calendar. She was just beautiful too. In high school I only had one crush. That was Marion Jacobson. But, who wasn't in love with her? To me, she was smart, intelligent, attractive, a good leader (she was captain of the Brigade dance team), and she had a letter jacket, just like I did, our senior year. I remember sitting next to her in precalculus class. She was to my right. Was one of my favorite classes anyways, but her being in it just made it all the more wonderful. Then there was Jennifer Lynn Pinkerton at Texas A&M University. She was in aeroaspace engineering, just like me. It was love at first sight for me when I first saw her in our first aerospace class. We were sophmores then. I found out she had a 4.0 in aerospace engineering, and she kept it through graduation. That really intimidated me, and I never had the balls to ask her out until graduation day. You couldn't imagine how I felt when she said yes to us just getting together one night and hanging out. Well, one thing led to another, and she became my first true love. I lost her, however, due to my medical condition of schizophrenia. That's when my whole life went upside down. As far as which teacher inspired me the most, I would have to say that my dynamics professor at Texas A&M University, Dr. Kozak, was the most inspirational teacher that I have ever had. Not only was the subject of dynamics very interesting, but he taught the class the way a poet stands before an audience and just let's go of his or her art, mezmerizing and captivating any and all who are listening. It was art, I tell you. He has the gift of teaching, and I was honored and fortunate enough to be one of his students. I aced his class, and I never forgot, or ever will forget, him. I want to be a professor of physics. I only hope I can be of such a calibur professor as he is. If I could do it all over again, I would do it exactly the way I did it. I am quite satisfied with my circumstances right now, even though they aren't the best of predicaments. I have so much room for growth, and I'm on a new starting point in my life. It's like God has given me a second chance to show him and everybody that I can achieve the goals that I set for myself, as long as they are realistic and attainable. Also, the hope for a better future is always going to be there. I have my family and friends that support me, and this is a blessing alone. Most of all, I have God back in my life, and I'm learning, day by day, how to have a better, stronger relationship with him and Jesus Christ. It is a very challenging journey, a difficult one to walk, but with time, patience, and dilligence I have found that each day gets better and better. You can't change overnight, but "small moves, Ellie, small moves." (From the movie Contact). My funniest school memories: Hmmm . . . Well, I knew a guy at A&M named Prav. He was the funniest guy I've ever met. I tell you, he could talk to a wall for hours if he really wanted to. What I remember the most about him was that he was a jokester, sometimes a really bad one, but he never really meant anybody any harm. It was just his way of coping with his environment. My happiest school memories: Well that's easy. They were the emotions that I got from the crushes I had on these beautiful and amazing girls that I knew of throughout my life. Craziest school memories: Well, I have schizophreina right now, and I've done a lot of crazy things because of it. So, nothing real...Expand for more
ly compares. College Well, pretty much all my roommates were unique. First, there was William Chancellor, an engineering major who should have gone into literature. He wrote excellent stories and poetry. Hope he continued with it. Then There was Paul Harrison, one of my neighbors from the first place I moved into. He was American, but he resided in Germany. We had some similar qualities as far as determination was concerned, but that was just about it. We had the best pad, out at Walden Pond Apartments. Our friendship didn't go beyond the time we lived together that second year at A&M. We kinda lost touch after that. Then, I lived with George Radtke and Frank Popp that next semester, followed by the addition of Chris Buck. All four of us were student bus drivers for A&M. We had a good time with that, but I tell you, it was one of the craziest times I ever experienced. The combination of guys and girls living in this one area that we were living in made for a series like Melrose Place. I mean, the drama and the escapades (if you know what I mean) that went on during that time period was just mind blowing. After that semester I had to leave that whole scene behind and not look back on it. Anything to get out of that situation. Well, my sister was moving up here. So she, her best friend, and I got a place at Treehouse Village Apartments. It was a great place to be as far as a social environment was concerned, because it was mostly known for its lavish partying all of the time. Well, needless to say, I had to get pretty creative that semester as to how I was going to survive my last, most challenging and difficult semester in aerospace engineering. I was just about to graduate, and everybody I was surrounded by were just coming into this university, tasting freedom for the first time. Meanwhile, the courses I was taking were aerospce vehicle design, space technology (which included orbital mechanics), technical writing, and a few other courses. Needless to say, my last semester at A&M was probably more of a challenge than anybody elses who was in aerospace engineering. But I survived it all, and I got that degree after all. There was one instance I remember quite well concerning all-nighters. I was doing a lab report for my AERO 305 lab class that was taking a little longer than I thought it was going to take. What I remember the most about it was that I spent approximately seventy two continuous hours in the computer lab room completing this lab report, living on nothing but Snickers candy bars and soft drinks from the nearby vending machines. The TA messed up the date of giving me the assignment, so I got shafted on preparation time for my report. Anyways, I hadn't been home in three days, because the deadline for this report had passed already. When I went to turn it in to my teaching assistant at his place, I was just about to pass out. It was Thanksgiving day, so as I got to my pad (somehow), I called my folks and told them I'd probably not be able to make it home that day. Well, I got bitched out. Anyways, I really didn't care for anything except sleep right then and there. So, I dropped myself onto the bed, and before I knew it, I was out. Funny thing, though, I woke up just a few hours later feeling completely refreshed. Well, I got home in time for Thanksgiving dinner, and everybody was happy. What I think of most when I look back on my college days are the great times I had in study groups at all kinds of places. Also, I met and engaged in so many different kinds of relationships with student girls of all races and ages and cultures at Texas A&M. Even though I still feel as though I hardly know anything about women, I have some experience with them. Through my successes and many failures I have learned this one truth. The best relationships are those that are nurtured with time and patience, having no expectations of each other, and developing a growing, loving, enduring trust between each other. Workplace Well, what I can truly say is that at this point in my life I am quite in mode to succeed in my next venture in the economic community. I've had my own business now for about almost three years now, but it's still a hobby . . . I'm not really making any money with it. I'm having a wonderful time working on it, though. It is a love-child of mine (one of a few that I have), and I try to nurture it as sensibly as I can. It's wonderful to be your own boss, even if you aren't making any real money. I like to think of it as a work in progress that's a work in progress. It's nice, though, to be working for yourself, also having the God given gift of having the time to be able to do so. Let me tell you this. I think I was made out of magic, because magic fills my life all the time. I can't really explain it, but my life, all things considered, is rather taking a direction for the better. I got some new stuff just recently. I mean, I got some gifts galore! A new phone . . . With Bluetooth As Well!!!!! Some really nice clothes from my folks (my mom took me on a couple of shopping sprees), and I got some super stuff! Last time I got colthes was about a decade ago, so you can imagine my emotional mood swing to sheer happiness. My doctor would flip if she got word of that. So please keep quiet about it. I don't want my medication changed again (God no). So that is "Classified!!!!!!" No one else needs to know. Well, that's about it.
