John's Story
Life:
Okay, so I didn't graduate from North! I was expelled in October 1963, our senior year ( got in a fight after school, off school grounds, witnessed by Bob Hardin). I did graduate from Pratt on-schedule in '64, however. I then graduated from college, and went on to graduate school in Indiana studying Theatre and Drama. I've been a writer, a semi-truck driver, a prison guard in Illinois, director of a program for mentally retarded felons in NE, an Advocate for offenders at the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Assistant Director of Research for the MA Dept. of Mental Health, and now, I'm the Assistant Chief Probation Officer in the District Courts of Massachusetts (Update, I retired 5/1/09). Who knows what's next - I'm thinking of learning to build rock walls, too.
I'm married to Natalie Zolli of MA, and we have an 34 year-old son, Derek, and a 32 year-old daughter, Carly. We live in Hingham, a small town on the Atlantic Ocean, 17 miles south of Boston.
My pals at North were Bill Crawford, Bob Volcheck, Loyd Fjerstad, Jerry Oetter, Steve Rewolinski, Billy Bro, Mike Gallagher, Terry Yale, Denny Rogers, et al. Some of the girls we knew back then were Trudy Stoops, Sherry Given, Pat Halsey, Joy Dishong, Linda Phillips, Sandy Bullock, Janet Patterson, Kathy Behney, Connie Kellogg, Frankie Barnes, Sandy Beutel, Patty Pignotti- some were friends, others girlfriends.

School
B.A. Theatre at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I went to graduate school in Theatre Studies at the University of Indiana and spent 3 years, but didn't take a degree; which is really dumb because I got a free ride there except for housing.
I’m now starting my 11th year as a crew member at Trader Joe’s. Boy, if you knew me in high school you're probably asking, "What happened to John, talk about a guy changing"!
Workplace
No longer the Assistant Chief Probation Officer of the Brookline District Court; I supervised line probation officers, took my rotation in the courtroom, and supervised a myriad of cases. I also closely supervised convicted sex offenders - not a nice group. Massachusetts is one of the most liberal states in America, and there should be more offenders in jail as opposed to being on probation. I was a probation officer since 1978 when I started at the Dorchester Court, a tough inner-city urban court. There I had a specialized caseload of mentally ill and/or mentally retarded offenders. Just previous to that I had worked as an Advocate for the Massachusetts Bar Association, ...and so on. Must be serendipity; what a career shift for a guy who studied Theatre, planning on becoming a college professor. I just took a big turn after I left graduate school in Indiana. I'm just enjoying retirement now, however. Hoist the sails - fly the jib!
