John's Story
Life after OHS: graduated from Ga. Tech in 1970 with a BSEE, (I was a radio geek in HS and still am). Served 2 years in US Army in Stuttgart W. Germany as Signal Corps lieutenant, airborne qualified. Then a 20 year career with Motorola in Atlanta, Chicago, England (almost 7 years) , back to Chicago, with lots of international travel, in wireless communications, starting as an engineer, and ending up as a product manager with a worldwide P&L. I was lucky to have spent almost 9 years living and working outside the U.S. Along the way got an MBA at night school while working full time. Then moved to Boston to do a series of startups as CEO, then worked for Harris in radio again, and now do consulting part-time in communications engineering and CEO/business/marketing/sales management. My first wife was from Norway (Inga); now married to Lorraine Prible (who is from Plainview LI). Oldest daughter Christine, aged 38, is a product designer/artist/landscape architect; stepson Bob, 38, is a software programmer and IT person; stepdaughter Kim, 35, is a Ph.D. research biologist. We have 3 grandsons 11, 8, and 1 year who live nearby in MA. In my 'spare tim...Expand for more
e' I am a volunteer fireman/EMT, and active in our church. I also enjoy boating and water sports, hiking, working out, history, ham radio. I enjoy languages and picked up German, some Norwegian and Arabic, and am working on Italian now. I am in the process of writing some books on various subjects including one for small company CEOs, one with a political theme, and one with a spiritual theme. Music: I'm pretty locked into the 40s through the 70s, plus some jazz and classical. Film: mostly into classics from the 30s to the 60s.
My mother lived on Chelsea Road near Oaks School 3 for many years, but passed on a few years ago. My younger brother Paul lives in Long Beach. I visit LI occasionally, but my wife and I agree it's not the same as when we were growing up in the 50s and 60s-those were good times. I now also realize what a great education we received in the Oceanside schools-we learned English well and to this day I cringe at the fractured English we read and hear daily. We live in Maine on a quiet lake and enjoy the slower life style. I would welcome hearing from some of the folks I used to hang out with so long ago in Oceanside.
