John's Story
I left Marshall to join the Navy in 1959. I completed my high school education in the Navy and Marshall put me with the Class of 61. I retired from the Navy in 1978 after one tour in Viet Nam and one tour of recruiting duty here in the Cleveland area. I moved to Mechanicsburg, Pa. where my wife's sister and husband lived. They said they could get me a good job with the state of Pa as a personnel anylist. Unfortunately it was an election year and the only state job available was corrections officer at the state penitentary. I lasted six months,three of which were in the academy,before they carried me out one night after being jumped in one of the cell blocks.
I came back to Cleveland and had a lot of different jobs. Then I retired again in 2006. My wife is still working, her choic...Expand for more
e, and plans to retire in Jan of '09. We will be spending our winters in Fl and come home in May. In Jan my wife and I will celebrate our 48th anniversary. We have two children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. It is great to be able to spoil another generation of grandchildren. Life is good and I hope it just gets better.
I almost forgot to mention my 15 minutes of fame. I was on the "Wheel of Fortune". The show aired on Dec. 26, 2002. I was the big winner that day, winning $37,660. It would have been a lot more if I had solved the big puzzle at the end. I would have won a Mazda Miata convertable. The worst part was my wife couldn't make the trip because she was ill. If I had used her initials...I would have solved the puzzle. Never going to live that one down.
