John (Jack)'s Story

Life... I am hoping to connect with classmates and friends to keep memories of our time together alive. Someone asked for the story: At age 27 I got married and started a family and then a business. Now I see these as the best years. I was self employed for 20 years, got bored went to graphic design (My aunt Jean always said, "use that art education!") for 5 years--had fun but got tired of staring at a computer screen all day--just not enough people contact. Next was sales--first computers, then carpet at McSwain, then appliances at HHGREGG. I loved talking to peple all day--do you remember how shy I was in school? It was very painful! Jesus heals! I moved to Georgia and to carpet sales at Lowes in Pooler GA--still work there part-time. However, no Saturdays off, very few Sundays off, no freedom to volunteer at church, have a part time endeavor or attend a class because the unpredictable up-at-4 or home-at-midnight all in the same week--today's retail schedule is grueling. It was ripping into my health. So--I went to work in aerospace manufacturing--customer service. Having the time of my life. I have not done so well in marriage. Yet, along with wonderful memories, I have a beautiful daughter--Mary (married to John) and two awesome grandchildren--Mason & Madison. Painting, drawing, photography, a bit of pottery and play take up my free time. My very enjoyable exercise regimen is in the doldrums--have been worknig 10-11 hrs a day, 7 days a week. However overtime is ending and I'm starting to walk and ...Expand for more
plan to rollerblade and bike (then run) again soon. One advantage of living in Savannah Paradise is that the weather is great every day! Hey, this is classmates.com!!! And I wanted to mention how enjoyable every minute of the 2008 reunion planning with Anna, Linda and Bill Ohr was. Earl graciously providing a beautiful place for our gathering--thanks again! Melissa, Barb and others who came from far off! Didn't God give us a perfect day! Our time together for our 40th at the school and the party--Mrs. Minnick and Bill Ohr and othes who dropped by--what treats! So many classmates assembled again enjoying each other was more than amazing. You all, every one, hold a dear place in my heart... except for Linda & Bev--who tried to kiss me--at the same time--on camera, to embarrass me (not all that hard). If I only could have figured out a way to kiss both of them at the same moment--dream come true! Still they aimed at making Darlene jealous--they're trouble personified. I have to include those missed--those who did not attend, those who, as Phil said, "went to Austraila," ahead of us (Sandy, Ken, Bertha, Steve, Gary, Bob, to name some) and those who could not attend (Renee, Ellen, Barb, Hellen, to mention a few--you were sorely missed by all), and for the all too brief appearances of some--Bobby and others. Over 40 1968 grads were there. I can name you all, and for that I am grateful. I sincerely look forward to another reunion and seeing all of you again soon--before I'm really old! Please write.
