John Hanses:  

1976 WOW 40 years ago....Where do I start....Anxious to strike out on my own, I left Michigan several days before Graduation day and never went to the commencements ceremony. I did my best to keep a low profile in High School and became very involved in my Church at that time. I was in Choir and did the Co-op program working for my Father at our family ACE Hardware store. In 10th grade my sister Terese Hanses was that 1974 Homecoming Queen. I graduated from Barber school in 1977. Back then Saturday Night fever was hot and I wanted to make money doing the popular style cuts for men. By the time the economy tanked in 1981 I decided to enlist in the Navy ...pursuing my Naval career at the Naval School of Health Sciences in San Diego as a surgical technologist. Surprised to graduate at the top of my class and then ultimately being stationed as far as the Chagos Archipelagos Islands halfway around the world in the Indian Ocean for my first tour of 2 years. It was Gilligans Island come true and I loved it. Then I got stationed in San Diego for the rest of my stint in the Navy . I didn't make it through medical school to be a Plastic Surgeon because my math skills were not up to snuff and finances ran out so I went back to Barbering for awhile. Many wonderful relationships came and went in my 20's 30's and 40's and I finally decided to stay single and check out of mainstream society and moved to the Sierra Nevada up in the Mountains near the Tahoe National Forest in North Eastern part of California.
