John's Story
Definitely time for an update. It is May of 2013, a long time since my last entry. It seems I don't get onto the Classmates site as often.
Yes, I am still a full-time university professor. I enjoy everything about 'academia' so very much; I am truly blessed to have such an awesome follow-up career to my 30+ years in law enforcement. At this point I have no plans to retire or cut back on my teaching load.
My two sons have seen some changes. My older son and his wife left their home by the beach and relocated to southern Oregon. They have been there for not quite two years (through two winters) and have decided to stay. They recently bought 113 acres of land, with a few outbuildings and a 100+ year old farm house. The house needs a lot of work but they have a lot of plans for the place. The area is absolutely beautiful. Needless to say, my wife and I will be doing a lot of travel to Oregon.
Our younger son finished Chiropractic college, passed all his national board exams and came back to Orange County. He was here a short time and 'relocated' to practice at a clinic in Peru! Afte...Expand for more
r about a year he was back in the OC, fluent in Spanish and with a renewed appreciation for the USA. South America was a great learning and growth experience for him, as both a person and a doctor. Now he is practicing in Orange County, very busy and back in school to earn a Master's degree. Oh, and his mom is trying to find him a wife. Any and all suggestions or leads will be appreciated :-)!
My dad will be 95 in a few weeks. He continues to amaze all of us. Although he has slowed down somewhat, he still lives alone and has a very active social life in a senior living center. Dad is definitely the 'heart and soul' of our family, and he keeps in touch with nieces and nephews and grandkids all over the country via the internet.
My wife lost both her mother and sister - both after extended illnesses - in the past couple of years. It was a difficult time and transition for her. But she is doing great now. She is very busy with work and a never-ending load of hobbies.
That's about it to now. I enjoy hearing from you former Vikings. Leave me a message... I will get right back to you!
