John Hubbard:  

I attended Sac State after high school, earned a BA in physical sciences and became a elementary teacher locally. In '78 I took a break from teaching and moved to Portland, OR to attend Western States Chiropractic College. 1981 was a good year--my wife Barbara and I had our first (and only) child, I graduated from WSCC and set up a practice in southeast Portland. Two years later we moved back to Sacramento to care for ailing parents and while waiting to take CA state boards took up substitute teaching. Well, that led to an offer of a primo teaching position which I accepted and for six years I had two careers, one in teaching, another in health care. I gave up the chiropractic practice to focus on teaching in 1990, and retired from Sac City Unified in 2001 after 26 years as a teacher. Barbara was diagnosed with cancer in 1996 and died a year later. I have not remarried. Currently my daughter lives in Austin, TX with her husband and two boys whom I adore. I have traveled some. In 1997 I helped set up a health clinic in a rural area near Assisi, Italy. In 2004 I was diagnosed with lymphoma and, as part of a treatment program, spent some time at a clinic in Abadiania, Brazil.
