John's Story
Life
I live in Manteca something like 10 blocks from EU with my wife and family of 3 teenagers. Moving was one thing I hated growing up, so I haven't done much since. I prefer to roam far and wide, then return to "home base" to prepare for the next adventure(Planning to be in Mexico City next month)
I run a small company which specializes in custom interior finish carpentry and woodworking. We have a lot of great, loyal clients who are very rewarding to work for because they're usually excited about the way their houses turn out.
Outdoors is where I like to be, usually hiking in back country wilderness areas with groups of young backpackers. Running was my favorite thing to stay in shape, but that's out now due to a bad knee, so I'm on the new road bike working toward keeping up with serious cyclists that I know.
My kids are inspiring me to possibly go back and get a college degree(bad idea while running a business?). Either som...Expand for more
ething practical to make me better at business management or something to help people such as counselling or translation skills(Spanish/English) or helping with migrant issues.
It might surprise you to know that John, the shy/"withdrawn?" bookworm, somewhere along the line learned to like people, whether the many strangers who become customers and even friends through the business, or playing music and singing or speaking to church groups.
I have a dream of organizing a regional pool of people in the construction trades to help people with fixing/renovating their houses. This would involve a data base of interested volunteers, coordinating those available to get in and do high quality work in a short amount of time. If you have talents or ideas, please let me know. Meantime, I plan to be involved with Habitat For Humanity, since they have a well-developed system. Again, if you care to team up for that effort, let me know.
