John's Story
Life
As the 20th High School reunion approaches in October of 2005, I thought I'd put down "A Brief History of John Since High School" to catch everyone up.
After graduation, I attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX where I received both my Bachelor and Master's degrees in Music Performance (Pipe Organ) with additional training in voice and conducting. While in school I made my New York debut at the Park Avenue Christian Church and worked for a large Presbyterian Church as Music Intern, a small Episcopalian Church as Organist/Choirmaster, and for a pipe organ building firm as an apprentice organ builder.
Since college, I have served as organist/choirmaster for United Methodist congregations in Hobbs, NM, El Paso, TX, St. Louis, MO, and Alexandria, LA. I currently hold the position of Director o...Expand for more
f Music, Worship & Arts and organist for the Cumming First United Methodist Church - a congregation of 2500+ members in Cumming, GA. The city is as a suburb of Atlanta and currently the fourth fastest growing city in the U.S. We are easy to find on the web!
I have been very active for years as accompanist, organ concert artist and consultant, choral clinician and adjudicator, and church music clinician and consultant. I also have gotten into accompanying silent movies: a large screen is set up and I provide a live, personally composed accompaniment on the pipe organ. The most popular movie that I accompany, not surprisingly is the 1929 version of "Phantom of the Opera."
I remain single and live with my dog Ginger. She is a mixture of Cocker Spaniel and Golden Retriever and will be 16 in February of 2006.
