John's Story

Updated 3/2024 Thought I better update this. What’s new? Debbie and I retired at the end of 2018. We are grandparents and loving it! My daughter and her husband live in Victor, NY have two boys, ages 4 and 6 and have a daughter age 2. Our son and his wife, who live in Raleigh, NC have a 5 year old boy who just happened to be born on my birthday and an 8 month old boy. Debbie and I moved to Victor, NY in November of 2023. Though it wasn’t fun moving we are enjoying our new house with first floor master bedroom and being only 5 minutes from the grandkids. I play golf in a league every Wednesday afternoon at Lake Shore golf coarse(May-August). It’s fun to drive through the old stomping grounds once in a while on my way home. It brings back fond memories. I sold my motorcycle! Thats all for now! Updated 6/2017 I met my wife Debbie at SUNY Alfred. We have been married for 39 years. Debbie has work at Pittsford Pediatric Associates for all of those years. She is the billing coordinator and has to deal with all of the insurance companies, however you may find her answering the phones or filling in at the reception desk. We have two grown children, Christopher and Sara. Christopher graduated from RIT with a degree in computer science and is an Advisor Software Engineer for IBM in Raleigh, NC. He and his fiancee Sarah are planning a fall 2017 wedding in Asheville, NC. After moving south he took up curling and is the President of the Triangle Curling Club in Raleigh. Our daughter Sara graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in psychology. She is an Associate Strategy Director for PHD Media out of New York City. Sara and her husband Nick met in the city. e years in the upper east side of Manhattan, they decided to move back to the Rochester area. Nick took a job with M & T Bank in Rochester and Sara was lucky that her company offered her the opportunity to work form their home in Victor, NY. She fly’s into NYC for 2-3 days each month. Sara and Nick are expecting their first child in June. Debbie and I are going to be grandparents! As for me, I am a Land Surveyor, licensed in New York and Vermont. I had worked for Sear Brown Consulting Engineers for most of my career and worked my way up to the manager of the Land Surveying Department. Just before the “great recession” hit Sear Brown was bought out by another company and after 25 years I became a down sizing statistic. Luckily, one of my clients, the NYSDOT, had an opening for a Licensed Land Surveyor. I am currently the survey supervisor for the NYSDOT in Rochester NY. I have worked with them for almost 10 years now. On nice days you may find me outside doing some GPS work. I enjoy having that flexibility. I still have my 1975 Suzuki 550 though it hasn’t been ridden in years. Probably time to get rid of it. In my spare time you'll find me working in the yard, playing golf, walking (I walk 2-3 miles most days) attending GEVA Theater and RBTL events, investing (I’ve been in the stock market since I bough my first shares of stock while in the 5th grade), traveling to see family. We enjoy vacationing with family at the beach, though it is harder to get the family together these days with everyone working. One of our favorite areas is Hilton Head Island, SC. For now, hoping my golf game gets back on track and looking forward to our first grandson coming mid June!
