Dharmashanti's Story
Life
I am fulfilling my long-held dream of being a professional writer. My first book "Fight the Misery Conspiracy" is available on Amazon and I am writing my second one, tentatively titled "Life After Sobriety".
After graduation, life became an adventure. I got married to a sweet gal, but I had a dark secret. I wasn't a guy. For reasons still not apparent, I always identified as female. Eventually, my wife and I parted ways. Then life REALLY became an adventure.
I started living as a woman and eventually had reassignment surgery. Along the way, I met a guy and we fell in love. Unfortunately, he and I both had issues. Both of us were becoming raging alcoholics. The years of hiding my true self, of being ashamed of who I was had taken it's toll. My ex became an abusive rage-aholic. I became a manipulative codependent.
I eventually got sober (following a suicide attempt) and left him behind. I realized that on top of being transgender, I am also a lesbian. Hardly a surprise since all of my drinking was at gay/lesbian bars.

mazing. We are different in a lot of ways. I am very spiritual (Buddhist/New Thought). She is into technology. But we have such a level of trust and respect for each other that few couples gay or straight have. Even when I explore new things such as new professions or belief systems, she is behind me 100%. When I volunteered to donate my right kidney to a complete stranger, she was all for it. And I couldn't have done it without her support. This is what family is about.
Like I said, my life became an adventure. Along the way I learned about the dynamics of the human spirit. Hate. Love. Despair. Hope. Fear. Peace. Resentments. Forgiveness. Misery. Joy.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not exactly Dr. Phil. I'm more the anti-Dr. Phil. I'm a post-punk, genderqueer, guru with an attitude. I've been described as Bill Maher-meets-Oprah. Another reviewer said that if Dr. Wayne Dyer and Ani DiFranco had a love child, it would be me. Yeah that's about right.
If you're not a narrow-minded, Kool-aid drinkin' hater, feel free to contact me. Better yet, buy a copy of my book for the REAL dirt.
Peace out!
