John's Story
My wife Teresa & I are grandparents: our oldest grandson, George, is seven (I can't quite believe it!); Hayden just turned three; Mia is a year and a half; and the twins, Evan & Asher, were just born in August. These young ones are spread out over three of our four children, two of whom live in the Houston area, one in Albuquerque, and one in New York. I retired from the Texas Dept.of Health in 2000 and taught sixth grade English for five years here in Pasadena after going through alternative certification. r younger folk with more energy than an aging Boomer, so I now "freelance," as I call it. My wife (who is a nurse and still working) and I bought an old house close to downtown, which we remodeled (that's a whole other story that would take too long to relate here), and now rent to our youngest daughter (George's mother). I sub teach a little, work with the food pantry at church, take "Grandpa" duty when someone is sick or Mom & Dad are otherwise tied up, try to have a meal ready when my wife gets off a 12-14 hour shift at the hospital, etc., etc. While "doing my time" in middle school, I got interested in writing -- just for "fun & therapy."
