John's Story

Life My Job? Great! I Help Families and professionals to understand and treat Hidden Disabilities. I teach at Probation Departments, Schools, Parenting classes, Conferences, etc. I've received the "Silver Bowl" award from the San Jose Junior League, for my volunteer efforts, in 2001. I've been solicited to attend and express my ideas at a private meeting with the Federal Department of Health and Human Resources, in Phoenix AZ. in 1997. I live aboard a small Houseboat on San Francisco Bay, I'm involved with organizing Music Festivals, in the bay area. I play with a Celtic band at the Kings Head Pub in Campbell, CA. on Thursday evenings and Bluegrass at other times. In 1968, After then Governor Reagan reacted to the episodes in Berkeley, I moved to British Columbia, bought a 38ft boat, lived aboard, in a very remote area on the northern tip of Vancouver Island (Quatsino Sound) for 11 yrs, then moved to Newfoundland for 3 years. I was fortunate enough to play music with Newfoundlands finest musicians. I've produced and directed my own successful show, (Service With A Smile) in St. John's, Newfoundland (Canada). I've helped to develop the "Birdcage Theatre" in Oroville, CA. since 1984. I'm presently sculpting in native California Soapstone. I've recently purchased a 40 ft. houseboat that I'm rebuilding to give me more space for my "Stuff". I'm curious about how my classmates have evolved since PU. I've changed a lot and I wonder what everybody else has been doing, all these years!... I'm thinking of "Retiring" soon, That will give more time to persue my artistic endeavors. I've been taking drawing and writing classes, and planning to write a book about the Logans involvement in celtic history. I'm collecting data right now (I love the internet) about several events that were happening during the time period I want to write about. I'm also putting...Expand for more
together a book about my celtic ancestry, for our family archives. On April 27th 2007 I received a certificate acknowledging my volunteer work from the Junior League of San Jose. I received an award from TransAccess in San Jose for my mentoring a young man with disabilities, over the last year 2007. School Wayne Shrope was the teacher that saved my life!... His compassion and understanding helped me sustain 4 years of Placer Union. He recognized my skills even when I did not and helped to nurture me with positive feedback. My craziest class was Algebra, with throwing my buddies out of the 3rd floor classroom windows, then rushing down to bring him back (on class time). We had this planned this aforehand and utilized the trees that were there so no one was injured. hiding all the erasers in Judy's desk, and when the teacher went to get a replacement, we put all the erasers back and hid all the chalk. When the teacher returned to find all the erasers but no chalk, she was so frustrated she cried and left the classroom. College I had always been told that I was not College material. After sustaining a spinal injury on the job, as HD Mechanic, I began my college career in 1987, at the age of 46+. I enrolled in a single class, Psy 101, at Feather River College in Quincy, CA.. After acing the class and developing study skills, I took 2 classes the following semester. I was tested by the Student Services and was informed, that I had severe Learning disabilities. I finally achieved an AA in Social Studies in May, 1992. I transferred to Menlo College with 3.95 GPA. I was on Menlo's Deans List for the next 3 years. I Graduated in May 1995, with a BA in Psychology, Awarded the "Outstanding Psychology Student" for 1994, and Magna cum laude. While at Menlo I designed the t-shirts for the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week for two consecutive years.
