John's Story

January 2013 Update: 5 years since my last post. I guess life got in the way. Lots of changes. Still married to Vickie (32 years and counting) Mostly empty nesters now. Son John transferred to UT and graduated in 2011. He's now following my footsteps and is in flight school in Smyrna, Tn. Just about to complete my 26th year with USAirways. Have been flying as a Captain on the Boeing 737. Hopefully will soon begin training on the Boeing 767 and do the international thing again. For the most part it's been a good career. But now I'm pulled into union service by chairing a committee for the last 4 years. Dues Collection and Finance Administration. I think I enjoy the desk job over the flying. Go figure? Still have both my parents living at home. Dad is 89 and Mom is 88. They still enjoy their trips to the Cherokee Casino if you can believe that! I think it;s great they can still get around. My sister thinks they are nuts. But who's to judge, right? More power to them. Hope this message finds all of you happy in life and in good health. I'm not a paid member here, but feel free to drop me a note if you can. Best Wishes to All. Hi All...Expand for more
, Jan. '08 Hard to believe it has been 34 years since graduation. After BHS, went to UT. BS in Business. Married in '80. Have 1 son at ETSU who will be 21 in Feb. '08. Learned to fly in '76 and have followed it to this day. One milestone occured last May when I broke the 20,000 hour mark. Still working for USAirways. Complete 21 years later this spring. Crazy business I got myself in, but it has been mostly a lot of fun. Have always liked travelling but now when I travel prefer to see things up close and slow!! Camping and canoeing play big in my free time. Have been to MN and Canada multiple times and really enjoy the peace and quiet. No phones, TV's, and lots of freedom. Still live in Knoxville, Farragut area. Was always fun teasing my son and his Farragut friends every time BHS would play FHS. One of these days will have to revisit the old school. I bet there are a lot of changes. Wonder if the "Pit" is still there? or did they fill it in? Would like to see everyone again. But facing reality that it will be difficult. Please drop me a note if you can. Would like to hear from you. John
