John's Story

Life After graduation, I spent 4 years at Washington State University, getting my degree in Communications (Radio-TV). Then I spent two years at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis as part of my ROTC committment. Then it was on to the University of Washington Law School where I graduated and passed the Bar in 1975. I was then fortunate enough to have the privilege of covering the state legislature for Public TV in 1976 and 1977. I moved to Arlington, VA in the summer of 1977 and stayed there till 1996. I had a variety of jobs, working for the Senate, and private firms. I also met and married my wife. She was a reporter for the Omaha World-Herald, and we met at a Sena...Expand for more
te hearing. We have two sons, starting 9th and 11th grade in the fall of 2005.. When our youngest was ready to begin kindergarten, we decided that we needed to leave the DC area. So we decided to move to Bellevue or to Lincoln, NE where my wife grew up. We have been in Lincoln for nearly 9 years. My current job is as the Executive Director of the National Assn of Housing Information Managers (NAHIM). This is the trade group for Publc Housing Authority MIS managers. I established NAHIM in 1992, after having spent 3 years as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of HUD, dealing with public housing issues. That pretty much sums up the last 39 years since we all graduated.
