John's Story
Hello to all who may read this:
I've missed you guys. 'been gone a long time and went lots of places, but always wanted to go back to Port Orford-Langlois. Unfortunately, life got in the way, so I never made it back to stay, just visited once in 1982 when I traveled through on business when I was in the Coast Guard. I spent 24 years in the CG, enlisted in July 1968 and retired in 1992. Early in my career, I requested assignment to the Coast Guard Station at Cape Blanco in 1976 , but it was scheduled to close by 1979, so my request was denied and I was sent to Kure Island instead (one of more than 20 assignments; I really got around). Sure wish I could have returned to Oregon, but never got closer than Washington State, stationed in Westport, and later Seattle.

ys ever. I spent 1966 in Bandon, 1967 in LaMarque, Texas, and 1968 in Galveston, Tx. Graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, but didn't know anyone as I'd only attended there from March through May of '68.
When I retired from the CG, I asked my family, (wife, Mary Ann, son Shawn, and daughter Carrie) where they'd like to live? We didn't have any plans, so we started West from Portsmouth, Va, and ended up in Huntsville, Tx, where I went to work for the Texas Department of Corrections, (Prison System), and kids went to Sam Houston State University. I can't believe I spent 18 years working for the prison system, and now am retired for the second (and final) time. Now, I wonder what has happened over the years back home? Sure would like to get to know some of you guys again.
