John's Story

Howdy class of "66";and those above and below I had the fortunate pleasure of knowing. 1st about that picture I thought I would get all gussy-up for invitation to Easter Church service; other than that I am usually tooling around; holding on for dear life to the handles of my four wheel walker around the apartment complex in East Lansing area. This was due to me and my ( mountain ) bike meeting a car again and not walking away from this one. Stay tune and I will share more of my pass and future biking advantures; yes I am getting another 21 speed hybrid; just think how much gas I would be saving and get my heart strong again. When every body chose what they wanted to do to future their education; I took trip down to Fort Wayne for the only thing I had to pass ( physical ) to become an Airmen in the United States Air Force for 6yrs. It was time to put my experience being in Civil Air Patrol to good use. The doc rapidly going down the line checking the guys out yet when he came to me he asked my to take a deep breath and hold it; then he said those words that stnned me on the bus ride all way home. " Son your not going" I asked why he replied " you have a bad ticker " In "68" I went through my first open heart next one was in "83" at Sinai Hosp; got a day pass had breakfast with my biking buddies spent time with my loving mom and dad. Next morn it was my turn where my fantasic heart surgeon did a valve job on me ( replaced my aorta with a St Jude Valve ) I did over 2500 miles on my bike with that valve just ticking away:). This past holiday I spent in the Hosp in Lansing with conjunctive heart-failure where I had to wear a "Life Vest" which if I did not respond to it in certain amt of seconds than it would go into a mode to shock my heart with 150 volts. I have been down many different interesting roads with what is call Romanic Heart Diease. I was wondering why I am a romanic at heart anyway. I have had jobs between open heart ops; my first was stuffing IBM cards into a feeding tray data processing machines. Drove truck to the emission labs of when the " big 3" where big; I enjo...Expand for more
yed that job the most cause I didn't have to deal with the turkeys back at the shop. It was at The Raven Gallrey I was introduced by Kitty Cohen to the director of "CG" and who should drop by to the coffee house I was helping to run but Pete Roseman to do a gig sing and playing his guitar he was good; pete was going to Wayne State; He now resides in Howell with student/wife practice as a therapist. Watching the Common Ground Counselors one day and to burn the mid-night oil to get my 2yr assoc in mental health; while doing so at the Auburn Campus on top of " the hill" I met a guy playing his guitar between classes name Bill; who flew in Vietnam and was flying the big entertainers into Pine Knob; The Doobie Brothers, Seals and Croft; while Bill was flying the two into Oakland Airport Jimmy came into the cockpit ask Bill what he was doing; during flying Bill put on auto-pilot and work on his songs; one of the songs came about watching his friends Jimmy and Dash perform; after Jimmy worked on it and with Dash recorded it well it became a big hit called " I'll Play For You"; I had the chance to meet the man who was an ambassador of collecting money for the food banks in this country to feed the under-nourished ( which is still going on today; "What A Shame"; This humanitarian's " Mr Taxi " himself Harry Chapin; I told Bill " I have decline the invite, because of finals ( no burning the midnight oil for awhile ) to pass would allow me to recieve that piece of paper which would allow me to go to 4yr university as a junior Wow!!. I oped for the cash cow business ( those who spend more money on their backs and give less pay to their workers:(. working in and residing with 6 young male adults from Oakdale Metal Health was in the "old Lapeer" for almost a year in a group home. I did not like what the so called Soc wrker was telling me what more of what I could not do to make peace in the neighbor hood especially with the old gentlemen and his wife across from us ( I think the jerk who owned the business and the so called soc wrker took the easyway out " Do Not Cause . ,
