John's Story

Amazingly, I'm still in Bethesda, still trying to fix our healthcare system, still working too hard but loving it! After WJ I went to Oberlin, then Seminary, then Penn Law. I did some European travel in between and got married. After law school I moved back to DC to do litigation for the NLRB, but soon moved to the Senate to work on Civil Rights for Sen. Jacob Javits. After 4 years I became Staff Director for the Senate Special,Committee on Aging, and after a wonderful 4 years there moved to AARP. I was the AARP Public Policy EVP for the following 27 years, which was a tremendously exciting and satisfying role. I got divorced and remarried du...Expand for more
ring that time, but also lost my son Nate when he was only 27. I have a daughter and 20 year old grandson in Gaithersburg today. I retired from AARP 5 years ago in order to become President and CEO of the National Coalition on Health Care. I'm also a member of several Boards and a consultant to Stanford University. My motto "never a dull day" still seems to hold. My wife Chris and I just moved into a new townhouse on Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda, which we really enjoy. We have a beach house in Bethany and enjoy hosting friends there year round. I would love to catch up with old friends from WJ - hard to believe it's been over 50 years.
