John's Story

Life I had a challenging 40-plus year newspaper career that included 14 years at the ny daily news and the final 17 at the ny times. now I'm teaching english composition at union county college to stay out of trouble. I am truly blessed with a wonderful 24-year-old daughter; a 41-year-old son; and 3 grandsons. Daughter was a competitive Irish step-dancer (wig and dress and all), and accomplished enough to be invited to dance in the all-ire...Expand for more
lands a few years ago. Too many years of hoops have ruined my knees and after 5 or 6 knee operations and 2 knee replacements, steps are a challenge. When I hit the lottery, I'll establish a charitable foundation, buy a small house out on Cape May Point another near Dublin and take care of my family and assorted friends. Tell me how we were friends growing up and who knows, you might end up with one of those envelopes stuffed with cash, too.

first job. I remember one professor asked why I hadn't turned in ANY assignments. 'I'm busy working at the paper." she said working on the student paper was not a valid excuse. "it's not the student paper,' I said.
