Started classical violin at 10 year of age as a failing student in spellllinnng and that over-rated subject called math. Excelled in the arts. Parents were both artists - I thought everybody had a dad that painted. Moved to Washington state. Joined a left-over hippy style belly dance ensemble that stormed the NW - Bou-Saada Dance Ensemble (we were the first for many things, Sting!). Made waves. Saved the Skagit. Played everywhere and every place...literally. Moved to California during '82 recession to join larger idealistic ensemble called AMAN. Stayed with them for 13 years. Toured the world and USA. Memorized every stage entrance and alley in America. Started my own ensembles, groups, composed scores, worked with wonderful artists everywhere and moved to Ojai. Remodeled our little home. Had two wonderful doggies...the best in the world. (you guys!) I am now living in Fillmore. I listen to the coyotes, crickets, frogs, hear the water flow over smooth and weary rocks in the Sespe River, look for Condors, seek hidden routes to run up through the orange and avocado groves to the mountain tops and forests beyond the touch of human hands and agriculture. Still running the long trails... Here is some more info from my BIO on the work I have done in my time here on the 3rd rock from the sun: John Zeretzke has written numerous World Music ballet, dance and theater scores for such companies as The Royal Danish Ballet, The Ohio Ballet, The Ice Theater of New York; also, Shakespeare’s The Tempest, As You Like It and King Lear for Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Zeretzke’s score for The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago was featured in Robert Altman’s docu-drama “The Company”. The Chicago Times called it, "an instant classic!” In 1998 Zeretzke was awarded the Lester Horton Dance Award for outstanding achievement in music for dance in Los Angeles, California. He won first place in the 2000 Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur International Composing Competition for Dance in Quebec, Canada.
