John's Story
Well, the late 70s and most of the 80s were and still are pretty much a blur, although I did manage to graduate from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in journalism. I worked for awhile for the old Houston Post, then moved on to work as a reporter for the newspaper in tiny Temple, Texas, roughly halfway between Austin and Waco. Worked there for about 15 years, along with side work for a few magazines and other papers. life. So ... I wound up becoming a school teacher. Seriously! Talk about a really strange way to make a livin'. So now I live in a little bitty town about 60 miles north of Austin, babysitting 12-year-olds all day long, workin' in the yard a little bit, smokin' cigars and playing a lot of golf. I'm married for the second time, and have two beautiful daughters. One lives in North Carolina and one -- an all-district high school basketball player -- lives with me.
