John's Story
Life
I lived in NJ until 1986. After finishing school at Brookdale my wife and I got tired of the traffic in Jersey and moved to Florida where I held jobs at Lockheed Martin and Mayo Clinic as a Network engineer. We moved from Florida in 2004 when I accepted a position in Rochester, MN at the home office for Mayo.
I've been married for 20 years in 2005. No kids, so we get to travel quite a bit. We been to Europe, Mexico, Canada as well as all over the US. We have plans on going to Ireland and the Norwegian areas in the future.
I like to get out and hike, do wood working, photography as well as do things on my home network.
I like to try and keep up with friends via email when possible.
Workplace
I started out my work life at Burger King in Hazlet NJ. Made several friends partied a lot and learned a lot about life there.
From BK I went to Blue Cross of NJ where I worked in the mail room and into a claims processing position. not the most exciting work in the world, so I finished off my degree at Brookdale and started looking for jobs in IT. At the time not much was going on in IT unless...Expand for more
you had a 4 year degree. So, getting tired of school and traffic I expended my search for work.
In 1987 I found a job in Jacksonville FL working at Methodist Hospital as a computer operator. There I did computer operations and some programming. While there I got interested in electronics so, while working, I went back to school to learn more about that.
In 1989 I took a job at Lockheed Martin in Kingsbay Ga. There I did several jobs in electronics. During that time I started to get interested in computer communications so I took a job at Lockheed building computer networks. I stayed at Lockheed for around 7 years.
In 1996 a job came up at Mayo Clinic in the computer network field. I took this job and grew with in the company to where I was the lead of the networks group, managing the team and all aspects of the computer network. In Jacksonville I designed, built and implemented the computer network that allowed the site to go paperless in their medical records.
In 2004 an opening at Mayo's home office came up. I took this position because I was looking for a more challenging environment.
