John's Story

I am in my third career (first was as a CPA and second was accounting software and computer sales) as a residential rental property owner and manager. I own and manage my own properties in two historic neighborhoods in Greensboro. I enjoy the creative facets of finding, buying, planning the renovations, managing the projects, and then finding good tenants! This requires me to wear many hats. Of course I do all my accounting, as well as many repairs and whatever else is needed. The pay off is that you answer to you. My time is flexible and I like to freedom that comes with that. Honestly, dont make the income that I use to, but there are other benefits. I am divorced and my son currently lives with me. He is entering UNCG this fall. Great kid, but a bad driver! I refer to him as the "Deer Hunter". If he has one more incident with a deer, Santa's herd would be wiped out and there will be no Christmas! He wants to be a Pharmacist. He's got the brains, if only he will make the commitment. We will see! Blessed with great health. My mother (80) still lives in O'Henry Oaks and Dad (90) lives in Mocksville with a 24 and 17 year old sons from a second marriage. They both live on their own, and still drive and take care of themselves. My brother Mark is married and they have 7 year old triplets (1-boy, 2-...Expand for more
girls). So there is plenty of excitement when they are around. We share a lake house on High Rock lake. Great to get away to, if one can find time to (summers are my busy season with the properties). Fun times are for local Beach Music events downtown (still love to dance), music in the park events, some movies, driving my '71 Cutlass convertible, NCSU football and basketball games, and try to catch some Carolina Panthers games. I did a lot of traveling in the USA and overseas with my career in sales. That was wonderful and I feel like I was lucky to see all that I saw and experienced. Still love to go to new places when the cash flow allows. My brother got me into sailing in the Caribbean. Hopefully we can start making trips again when his kids are older. For those of you who have not seen or heard from me since high school, that is it in a nut shell. Life has been good! Not easy, but I never expected it to be. I enjoy the challenges (most of the time, if they can come a little spread apart). Drop a note when you have a moment and say hello. I have emailed some classmates and shared updates on others which has been fun, brings back lots of memories. Sorry to find out about those who have pasted on, but glad to know who is still with us and doing well. Better go. Later, John, Johnny, or Drano
