Johnna's Story
I moved to Arizona in 1993 to attend graduate school and get my Masters Degree in Counseling. I am married and have 2 children. Ashli is 18 and Jon is 12. Ashli is pre med at ASU and Jon is in the 7th grade and plays on a club baseball team keeping our weekends busy. I am employed at Aurora Behavioral Health/Acute Care Hospital, as an Intake Counselor working with Suicidal, Psychotic and/or Chemical Dependent/Detox patients. I assess patients coming in from local Hospitals via ambulance or walk-ins, making sure they meet criteria, providing a psychosocial assessment and making sure they are safe until they get to a unit in the hospital. rked 12 years at Arizona Baptist Children's Services. I was the Family Services Director overseeing Community Based Programs, providing intervention and reunification services to families who were reported to Child Protective Services and needed prevention or reunification services if their children were removed by the state. Fact :( only approximately 25% were granted custody of their children through this program after completing the court ordered services. Very stressful job being responsible for so many children and staff. Loved doing what I was doing but I am happy to have moved on to another job that I love and working again hands on wiith people.
