Johnnie's Story

Johnnie Clinton Warner Jr. Founder, Columbus Black History Museum and Archives Johnnie Clinton Warner Jr. was born September 12, 1959 at Metropolitan General Hospital of Cleveland, Ohio to Johnnie C. Warner Sr. and Betty Jean (Massengale) Warner. Johnnie was about 2 years old when he had lost his father to cancer. Later on in his life he had lost his mother to this devastating disease. Johnnie had developed at an early age a character deserving the nickname Man. One day, Johnnie had asked God what could he do for Him? Johnnie would hear people asking God for help and assistance, but would not hear people asking to help and assist God. Growing up on the east side of Cleveland, Johnnie was faced with challenges everyday. As a teenager Johnnie was surrounded by activities not accepted by society. After graduating John Adams High School June 10, 1977, Johnnie joined the United States Army as a cannon crewman on September 23, 1977. He was introduced to a life style of mental challenges, leadership, and mission accomplishment. During his tenure in the military he had received numerous awards, commendations, and decorations. His decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, and six Army Achievement Medals. Johnnie excelled above his peers in all Leadership Courses as Honor or Distinguished Honor G...Expand for more
raduate. He has won numerous Soldier of the Year competitions. He was inducted into two elite military orders: The Sergeant Morales Club and The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara. Johnnie's military assignments and the spirit of God had strengthened his knowledge of the Black History. He had noticed Blacks are stricken with poverty, sickness, and oppression worldwide. August 1, 1996, Johnnie retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army. In November 1996, Johnnie joined the Charbroil Grill Team. Within a year he had excelled to a Leader of a Pack line Assembly. After seven years of service with this fine company, Johnnie had decided to venture out to serve God by teaching and preserving Black History as a tool for Black Americans to use in making sound decisions (the right choices). He retired from Charbroil, March 2004 to open The Columbus Black History Museum and Archives of Columbus, Georgia. Johnnie's love and passion for the preservation and education of Black History has become a lifelong commitment. By virtue of his heart-felt interest to serve God, Johnnie has assumed the responsibility for the preservation and education of Black History worldwide.
