Johnny's Story
I left Jordan high school in 1956, and joined the U.S. Air Force. Like a lot of you I was raised in north highland on 32nd st. I had 3 brothers and 2 sisters and 2 of my sisters and one brother went to Jordan. My sister Willadean was a senior the year I started at JVHS , and I joined the choir so we could have a class together. My younger brother Jimmy attended JVHS and graduated about 63.
While I was at JVHS I fell in love with cars, and ran around with Charles Sewell and he drove a 1949 Plymouth. He was a great mechanic, { still is } and we had a blast together driving fast, drag racing and double dating. In the 10th grade I had a 1948 Dodge that I painted Richard Petty Blue with a white top. It was very fast and I know that a lot of the guys will remember that car . I had a heavy foot and drove way too fast. I also ran around with Leroy and Gene Hancock during that time and they joined the USAF with me.

returned to Columbus briefly and met and married Faye Massey. We re-enlisted in the USAF for another 4 years and had 3 kids together. We returned to the Atlanta metro area in 1965. Faye has 2 brothers living in Columbus. Gene and Gerald Massey. Gene owns Bellwood Body Shop and is well known there. So is Gerald. Both are fine men. Faye and I split up in 1965 and divorced. I am real sorry to say that she passed away last December . We were still good friends. I have remained in the Atlanta area since that time and made my living in the service station business, garages, and numerous car lots the last few years. I remarried in 1967, and my wife and I have been married for 43 years and had one son together. That makes 4 wonderful kids that I had all together. It's been a great life . I was able to introduce all of them to Chicken Comers bar-b-cue, now in north Columbus. I'm glad to say they seem to love eating there as much as I do.
