Chris's Story
Life
I reside in the Sequoia neighborhood of Redwood City, California. I have lived most of my life in this state, except for a couple years I lived and worked in Seattle. I live with my wife Sheree and our two cats. She is pursuing her biochem degree while I pursue the MBA, yet we still enjoy our Saturday nights out, so most weeknights are pretty studious around here.
I am midway through the MBA program at University of Phoenix Online, looking at a February 2006 graduation date. I elected to pursue the MBA primarily out of natural competition with my wife (then girlfriend, gotta stay one step ahead!) and sister Emily (good ol' sibling rivarly), and the fact that my job was likely to dissipate when the last contract ended (which it did). Before that, I earned my BS degree in Business Administration - International Business from California State University - Sonoma in 1996, and my AA degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Napa Valley College in 1994...Expand for more
. During that time I also traveled to Europe a few times, which helped to deepen my love for languages and cultures (and picked up some serious debt!) The exposure to other cultures also helped me to see the complexities of the American culture, which has as its heart a mixture of immigrant styles and values, each one special and important in its own right, not to mention the various levels of economic backgrounds people come from. We are all human. In addition to these degrees, I have also picked up some certificates in federal contract management and US export compliance.
I was promoted to Program Manager on the Business Operations and Technical Services contract to NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in March 2005, which means for the first time I have managers as direct reports, which is really weird. My function includes leadership development, financial management, contract administration, human resources management, and asset management.
