Jon's Story
Has it really been that many years already? Funny, I don't feel or think as old as I really am. Maybe that is one of the things that keeps me young, not thinking like an "old person". Lol. It does not seem like that many years ago but it sure has been a wild ride in the meantime, and I guess in thinking about it, there is no way that all the things I have experienced could have happened if it had not been that long.
I posted some photos here from the various bands I was with, since I think I was about the only one that took occasional pictures. I still talk with Tim every now and then, and actually had lunch with him a few years ago during a trip to the mid west.
I worked at Delta College for a number of years as the lead computer programmer and also teaching 2-3 academic computer courses per semester. Although I cannot rave about the pay, I do have to say that that was one of the most fun jobs I ever had, great people to work with, and I liked the teaching part too.
Moved to Houston TX and hated it, only spent a year there, then moved to Novi MI and started working for Digital Equipment Corp. I really enjoyed working for DEC and learned a lot in the process. Still with DEC, moved to Massachusetts for a year, then spent several years with DEC in Nashua, New Hampshire. While with DEC, I became "internationalized", with several years of regular (at least monthly, sometimes more) trips to almost every major...Expand for more
city in Europe. In fact, the entire summer of 85 was in London, Geneva, and Nice France for a big project. Almost moved to Geneva Switzerland since I really came to enjoy the area and the people there.
After DEC folded up (now acquired by HP), moved to the Atlantic coast of Florida which is where I still am. Worked for several technical consulting companies as well as Harris Corporation, and became even more internationalized with frequent trips to various places including Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, as well as all over the US.
It really didn't take too long, however, to get really tired of the travel, corporate politics, the "right sizing" and lack of employee loyalty in corporate America, so I formed my own corporation, an "Inc". Yes, I am president, CEO, and chairman of the board, but the downside is that I am also the Chief Wastebasket Emptier. LOL. And I haven't looked back since. I have to say that I have never enjoyed a "job" more thoroughly. My typical work attire is shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt. It certainly does not have the same connotation as "work" typically has, since I don't consider it work and am having a blast, plus making 3+ times more than I ever would have in corporate America.
And of course, still keeping up with the music part of things - playing the piano for the Sat evening service at church, as well as keyboards on Sun morning for the praise band.
