Jon's Story
Life
I'm happily married, we had our 41st Anniversary end of July 2012, 1 daughter (has 2 cats, Roscow and Darla and a new dog, Bella) teaching in Virginia. I am RETIRED. Love gardening with my wife. I have many different Hosta's in our garden. We "lost" our Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix (Pac) December 8, 2011. Old age and serious health issues finally caught up to our almost 12 year old. Good news...We have adopted a Beagle/Treeing Walker Coon Hound mix male dog, "Humphrey", now 1-1/2 years old now, found as a stray in Tennessee. My wife, Ellen and I got him on December 31, 2011. Graduated from "puppy school" (with honors). Still needs to know some commands.
I founded the NAMW.HS (National Air Mail Week Historical Society) in July of 1986 to document the Special First Air Mail Flights that took place May 15-21, 1938 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the first Air Mail Service of 1918. President Franklin D. Roosevelt designed the C23 6c Air Mail stamp that was issued May 14, 1938 to start the week-long celebration. I am the Charter President and the Author/Editor of the NAMW....Expand for more
HS Journal. Currently listing over 10,300 cachets in Black & White and Color and over 12,900+ cities (of the estimated 10,000 cities - no real records were kept at the time) that participated in 1938. The "book" is available on CD-R & DVD-R discs in "read only" (Copyright Protected) PDF format. It contains over 40,000 entries. (I'm still adding NEW information as it becomes available.) Two trips to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington D.C. in 2008 & 2009 yielded some 1,600+ new cities from our 48 states and possessions. Copies of my NAMW.HS Journal (in DVD-R format) can be found at the American Philatelic Research Library in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington D.C. and many prominent collector's and stamp dealer's throughout the United States. My other collecting interests include: New Jersey License Plates (1900-Present); Antique Cigar Box "Outer" Labels (1870's-1940's) and Model Trains (HO & G Scale Steam era Engines, Passenger Cars and Cabooses (Cabeese) in kits & R.T.R. Thanks for looking, have a SUPER day... Jon D.
