Jon's Story

Life I have really gone places...I live several hundred feet from where I grew up :) There has been a Jones on the farm for over 100 years...I figured no point in messing it up now. I went to School of the Ozarks after high school long enough to figure out I wasn't art major material. I wanted to get into the aviation program down there, but couldn't afford it. Just as well. I then traveled with a Carnival for a few months airbrushing T-shirts...boy, was that a wierd time. Then I went to work for a company installing communications equipment. In 1992, I lost my dad to a heart attack. The older I get, the more things I think of I wish I could ask him. In 1993 I married Ella Mae Risher. I continued to work on the road, but after a few years of long distance marriage, quit the phone biz and came home. I had no job, so went to work selling car parts. Then, as luck would have it a few months later, a temp position opened up 30 mins from home designing kids shoes. I was finally able to make a living doing something I loved to do...and I didn't have to travel with a carnival to do it! I have been there going on ten years now...I hope it turns into a full time position ;)The name of the company is Trimfoot. If you Google it, Their website has a picture of my oldest son on the homepage- He's wearing our "School Issue" shoes that we market to private schools. In 1998 I became a dad, which is strange, on account of I STILL am not grown up myself. Ethan Garrett Jones came into the world the day we poured the foundation on our house. The sheetmetal on our roof (which was bought months later) was dated as being stamped out on the same exact day also. Am I the only person that thinks this is all a little strange? Anyway, Ethan is a cool kid...he likes to draw, is into science, but ma...Expand for more
kes a lot better grades than I did in school. 2001 was a year of many changes- of course everyone has memories of 9/11, but my world changed on Ethans 3rd birthday. I got a phone call late at night that my brothers company plane had gone down on the way to Atlanta, GA. The person I looked up to and asked advice from more than anyone in the world was gone. The last time I saw him, we played music at my house till late in the night. I can think of no more of a perfect way to have spent our last visit, and although it has almost become clique- it reinforced the thought of spending every moment with your loved ones like it may be the last...It very well could be. September 2nd brought the birth of our second son, Eli William (William is in honor of my brother) He is 5 now, and is funnier than all get out- It's unusaul to take him somewhere that he doesn't make people laugh. I am learning how to mellow out a little more from him. In 2001 I started a woodworking project I had bouncing around in my head for several years. It was an attempt to actuate a bowed string (like a violin) with a keyboard. While it did not turn out in some ways like I hoped, there have been several other attempts throughout the past 7 or 800 years that probably didn't fair a whole lot better. I posted a photo of it on my photos section. Not much has gone on other than that...This year I took up flying a powered parachute. It's basically a dune buggy with a propeller tied to a parachute. They go about 30mph, and are pretty tame. They have been known to take off by themselves (a pilot once bumped the throttle on his and it took of and landed 50 miles away without him) So I am just trying to be as safe as possible about the whole endeavor -I have to be, we have another bambino on the way about June 20th...
